The ride to Jared's place was filled with nervous tension. Jared was quietly stealing worried glances  at Melissa, he noticed that she didn't even take notice of the road they had used, and it seemed like she was lost in thought.

He wondered what was bothering her and he really wanted to know, not that he was curious but he just wanted to help, just as she had helped him.

"Are you okay?" He asked her. She sat up immediately, probably due to surprise.

"Excuse me?"

"I asked if you were okay, you seem a bit distracted and that's definitely unlike you"

"Oh, yeah I'm okay...just tired" she replied looking out of the window.

"Are you sure?" Jared asked her again obviously not convinced.

"Jared, sometimes I just want to savour the silence...today has really been loud and tiring and I just need some silence to rejuvenate".

"Some rejuvenation that is," he chuckled and she smiled, "Well Dr, at Jared's place there's no such thing as silence, I just thought I'd tell you before hand."

"We'll see how everything goes" with that she turned the volume of the music up and sighed as Jason Derulo's 'Savage Love' came on.

They got to the house a little after seven o'clock. Melissa was awed by how huge and beautiful Jared's place was, it was a Victorian style duplex with the garden lights switched on.

The lights made the compound look like it was from another world entirety.
When he opened the door, she couldn't stop her jaws from dropping, not even when he gestured for her to come in,

"Well Dr. Melissa, welcome to my humble abode."

"Humble? You call this humble? Wow Jared, I'm not sure I want to see what your proud abode will look like"

Jared burst into uncontrollable laughter. "Melissa you didn't tell me you were this funny. Come on, make yourself comfortable, I know I said just drinks but I'm actually starving. So I'm probably going to make us some takeouts, Chinese maybe?"

"Sure, that's okay...I'm actually a bit hungry too," She just realized how hungry she was.

"Perfect! Just relax, I'll be back in a few minutes," Jared said and left.

While Jared was away, Melissa fed her eyes with the beautiful artifacts on the cabinet and the paintings on the wall.

She was almost tempted to go touch them, but just then, Jared returned with a smile that told her food was ready.

"Please, come with me," he stretched his right hand. She looked at him briefly before taking the hand and following him behind to the dining.

He pulled the chair out for Melissa who sat like a queen. She salivated when he opened the plate and the sweet aroma of the hot Chinese beef and broccoli savored her nostrils.

Melissa was amazed at how good a cook Jared was. She couldn't help complimenting him every now and then. She devoured the food till she was full.

Jared was sincerely happy to see that she enjoyed the meal. After eating, they went to the big bar, sat on the stools and began to talk while Jared poured the drinks into the glasses.

Jared noticed that Melissa had become gloomy again. It was very obvious that something was bothering her. After the first glass of the cocktail, Melissa poured herself another glass.

Jared was surprised at how she gulped the drink at a go. He suddenly became worried because he didn't want her drunk. But Melissa was too focused on the drink to notice that he was worried about her.

She poured herself another glass, gulped again and was about pouring the next when Jared stopped her. It was already too late because she was drunk. He took the glass from her hand and led her to the sitting room.

She kept assuring him she was fine and could walk alone, but from the way she was staggering, Jared knew she would fall like a log of wood if he left her.

So, he held her till he got to the couch where he lowered her to sit. He then sat beside her and held her hands.

"Melissa, please talk to me. What's wrong? I do not want to be just your client, I want to be your friend. I want to help you..."

"Why?" Melissa blurted out, still drunk.

"Because...I care about you,"

Melissa began to laugh, getting Jared even more worried. She laughed so hard that tears began to fall from her eyes.

"He couldn't even wait for a day to pass...he is a cheat, a lying bastard, a coward, a..."

"Melissa, who is he?"

"Melvin! Didn't he promise on our wedding day to be faithful, truthful and understanding? Why? Why did he change?" Melissa cried.

Jared shifted closer and enclosed her in his arms. Melissa told him everything that happened between her and Melvin. After listening carefully, Jared became silent for a while.

He knew that Melissa was at fault, but he didn't support the fact that Melvin decided to bring a woman to the house.

He believed that even though Barrister Stanley had given them the liberty to do whatever they wanted, Melvin should've accorded Melissa some respect and not bring Cecilia to the house. At least they were still married.

"He hasn't even called me to know why I'm still not home. I'm not surprised. I mean why would he, when that daughter of Jezebel has taken over his life? I hate you, Melvin," she said, as though Melvin was there.

"Calm down, Melissa. I know just what to do. Remember your lawyer said no sleeping out till you're finally divorced. So, I'll just drive you home. Just do as I'll instruct you, I'll fix this, I promise," Jared said.

He led Melissa to the car and drove her home. He helped her down, supported her till they got to the doorstep. Then, he rang the bell. Just when Melvin opened the door, Jared kissed Melissa so deeply that she almost didn't want to let go of him.

"Goodnight baby, remember I love you so much," Jared said, before going back to his car, without even looking at Melvin.

"I love you too. Goodnight," Melissa said, waving at Jared, after which she walked past Melvin into the house and straight to her room.
